Macintosh Users. You must have MRJ2.1 (from Apple) installed on your computer. If not the installer is in the same folder as this file: MRJ 2.1.2.smi. If this is installed you need only place the Kinship Editor v.95 (mac) and the Help.txt file wherever you want them. It might be useful to copy some of the example files as well. Windows Users If you have java 1.1 installed on your machine, you need the Kinedt95.bat file, the Kinedt95.jar file and the help.txt file. You will need to edit the Kinedt85.bat file (using notepad or similar) to change the path of the java jre to where-ever it is located on your machine. If you do not have it installed, use the enclosed installer, jre118wn.exe, to install it on your hardisk. The installer will ask for a path. Type c:\JavaSoft\Jre in the box. Copy the folder KinEdt95 to the top of your hard drive. You run the kinship editor by double clicking on the kinedt95.bat (or just kinedt95) file in the same folder as this README. Note. Sadly ERA staff cannot provide much asistance to support and help in installing java on windows. Some infromation can be found at the main Jaav site . If you email reports of solutions we will post them on the main web site Prolog A simple prolog interpreter is also in the folder. Windows users double click wprolog to run it. Macintosh users double click Wprolog (mac). This is not a heavy duty prolog, and should only be used for evaluating prolog in principle. We recommend you acquire a more robust version of Prolog if you are at all interested in using it for serious work, though the enclosed one may be useful for doing web illustrations etc. Please check our website, as we are updating these and other applications, located at http://www.anthropology.ac.uk/Kava/. Among other things, simpler installations are planned for windows users. QuickTime Installers for Mac (QuickTime Installer (mac)) and Windows (QuickTimeInstaller.exe) are enclosed. They contain full installation instructions. Further information and help is available via the main web site: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/
