Houses and House Interiors {from p.14}

Sleymanli - Mehmet avu's 'ev' - approached up a flight of steps, hence 'ev' is airy and light. 2 windows. White-washed walls, strong ceiling beams -
blackened. Wooden supports in middle of room for loom - polished. 'Ev' built 20 yrs. ago, imi. 'Hasrlar' up during summer - 'tandr' in opening under the steps
below used for cooking all the time. Door out of 'ev' leads into further room where bedding stored, bins of flour, etc. This also has a window - and is}
light.
Small veg. patch at side of house and further larger patch at back of house running down to the 'harman'. Small barn and store room in 'havlu'. The 'bostanlk'
give quite an extent of land around the house and make its surroundings v. pleasant at this time of year.

2 other 'ev' I went into at Sleymanli are built on the same pattern - those of Haci and the Beki. Both approached up a flight of steps which mean they stand
high and are consequently light and fresh. - contrast fav{ourably} with some of the 'ev' in Sakaltutan which are buried underneath - cave fashion. Both 'ev'
white-washed and with windows - veg. patches adjoin each of these houses.
