Pukhto Rain Song

This song is sung by Shamso Rehman's little 6-7 year old daughter.

When I played this for another Pukhtun in the village he insisted that I wasn't hearing correctly-- not 'nAré wAla' but 'nAré burundi'. The Punjabis in the room supported my ears however and he finally admitted that this was children-speak, not proper Pukhto. As a concession to him I include a 'translation' into adult Pukhto.

Transcription:

nAré wAla vitor vitor ré ji

nAré wAla dé loula dund di ka ga

Translation into adult Pukhto:

nAré nAré bArAndé (the rest child's nonsense)

nAré nAré bArAndé loukhi dunda ka lum deeghee

t'hora t'hora bArish bartan undar lé ao
